Lake Mead

The shore used to be where the light bands on the rocks are.

One of the huge spillways at the dam. I don't think there's any risk of these being used anytime soon.

Yesterday we flew into Las Vegas to start a five week RV trip around some western states. I've never done an RV trip before so it's going to be an interesting experience.

Our first night was at a campsite just outside Vegas and it was unbearably hot. The air was completely still and stifling. Thankfully as I write this from out next campsite near the Grand Canyon it's much cooler, and it will hopefully stay that way from now on.

Today started with a visit to the Hoover Dam. I was there back in 2015 and the two big differences are that Lake Mead's water level seems a lot lower now, and there is a whole big security checkpoint to enter which felt much like a border crossing. We were there very early so it wasn't too crowded but there were big lines to get through the checkpoint by the time we left.

The rest of the day was a long drive to the Grand Canyon through ever changing scenery. We also drove a bit of Route 66 at one point which was scenic but pretty empty.
